For many years I used a WAMP package. Over the years this package moved into a more commercial realm. I tried XAMPP and after a few hours of not getting it installed and configured properly I decided to just install the individual pieces myself.
I have tried to make installation and configuration of the baseline software as simple and streamlined as possible as this can be quite a pain as it is something that is not done often. This is presented for someone that is somewhat technical in nature. This is not intended as “anyone can install a webserver on their pc.”
The following are the PDF document I created. You will need to get the software from the various sites that create it. I have provided URLS in the documents. The documents will open in a new window (or tab). Or, you can download the files by right clicking on the link.
These are the zip files that have final configuration files for you. There are instructions in the ConfigureWAMPdev.pdf pertaining to these files.
There are a number of avenues to do this. You can get the following packages from these URL's. Just keep in mind that the installation instructions I wrote were for specific versions so they may not match the installers for the version you have downloaded. Also note that my install instructions were written for the ActiveState version of Perl.
Or you can download the WAMP build I use for alchemy (Note: this file is a hefty 148mb. It also includes the installation documents that can be found on this page). The file to download is webserver_infrastructure.zip
